Cookie windows and attribution logic

Who is this article for?

This article will be useful to you if you are a company on PartnerStack wanting to know how partner referral links are tracked.

Cookie overview

PartnerStack's partner referral links use first-party cookies to track customer activity.

When a potential customer clicks a referral link, these cookies are stored in their browser and used to attribute all subsequent activity back to the referring partner.

Cookie lifetime

  • Cookies last for 90 days from the initial click
  • If the potential customer engages with the referral link again, the 90 days will restart
  • Cookies continue to track activity even if the user leaves the site and returns later, regardless of whether they click the link again

If a customer signs up or completes a purchase within the 90-day window after clicking a partner's link, all subsequent activities and actions will be attributed to that partner.

For cookies to effectively track customer activity, the referral must complete their signup or purchase using the same browser and device they used to click the partner's link. Switching environments will cause a missed referral.

For more information on cookies and tracking, see the Google Privacy, Apple ITP 2.3, and your PartnerStack program support guide.
